- Said “I like to sing the moments that have marked my life”
- Buika The Black Serene
With influences from Africa, flamenco and the youthful sounds from the home that came with all kinds of music, Buika took up singing by chance, replacing her aunt who was ill in a gospel choir. This is the first time the singer appears in front of an audience. Then from Las Vegas where she acted out the famous queen of rock Tina Turner, she arrives in the festival of Madrid along with Enrique Morente, one of the greatest living flamenco singers. Somewhere there among the audience attending was the producer Javier Limon, with whom as she says “fell in love artistically from the first moment.” Thus, from a gardener she was determined to be leaving forever the singing career, she finds herself in the studio to create with Limon the album “Mi Nina Lola” in 2006 and to write herself some of the songs.
“With Javier we are not working, we are just living moments in the studio and these moments are pleasant.”
They present the albums “Nina de fuego” in 2008 and “El Ultimo Trago” in 2009. In this latest music performance that was based on the idea of director Pedro Almodovar to interpret songs of Chavela Vargas, she is working together with the Cuban pianist and composer Chucho Valdes and takes us on musical paths that leave the soul to feel free.
Buika says there is no link between the different types of music she interprets, but considers that the link is her and her experiences. She feels the need to convey to her audience the passion of her soul, singing freely with the authenticity which distinguishes her voice.
In Greece, she first appeared in Thessalonica in 2007, where she blew away the Greek audience, while the following year she gave a concert in Athens in the Athens Festival. During her stay in Athens she visits the Temple of the Parthenon, which she says, impressed her from a young age and sometimes she even dreams that she is there.
