Madeleine Peyroux with her characteristic simplicity and directness has never put any boundaries and labels in music and expression and she balances on the extremes. She followed the surprises that each search and unexpected brings making her own history. She began singing in streets when she was young , which helped her to communicate more easily with the audience at concerts.
Known and beloved in Greece she comes after Italy in our country for one night and will continue in several cities in Europe following the recent release of her album “Standing on the Rooftop”. In this concert besides her last work, she will present older songs as well as arrangements of songs of Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and others.
Alexia participates who is involved in jazz in recent years.

Madeleine Peyroux at Megaro Mousikis
The evening just before Madeleine Peyroux appears on stage at Megaro Mousikis, I was prepared to face the alleged brittleness, which I exude from her albums. When she came out however she did her best to change such perceptions, which others might had like me, with jokes constantly communicating with the audience.
Wearing very plain clothes she gave me the impression that she has a very powerful presence on stage supported firmly by her voice rather than by physical presence. A little slovenly, but impressive in her own way.
She introduced us cheerfully to her melancholic songs calling them either drinking or happy songs, inventing sometimes funny lyrics to the delight of the audience.
Her voice - much softer and more flexible than I expected - at no moment she reminded me of Billie Holiday, although I tried to convince myself that it sounds like hers. And the truth is that it reminded me of no one ... Except herself. She confirmed that she has the talent to usurp a full song with just her acoustic guitar, using her voice over the entire range, pulling the vowels with a very elegant and sophisticated way.
The four-members band supported her very discreetly, accompanying her with notes of piano, guitar, double bass and drums. All together they served as a united team offering a very special audio-visual spectacle.
Madeleine Peyroux has been established so far as an excellent performer rearranging Billie Holiday, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits and others. But she has all the qualifications to stand out as a lyricist and songwriter with poetic lyrics, clever, wise and sometimes funny.
