“Do you know Tonino Carotone?
No.
An amazing type and his music cool. When he comes to Greece I will take you to hear him. God. Great music and style”.
“You don’t say” I was saying to myself, a big fan and… eavesdropper of a dialog between a boy an a girl at Lycabetus, while we were waiting for the concert tribute to Nina Simone to start.
Antonio de la Cuesta, known by the name Tonino Carotone again in our country from 9-15 October. He loves the Greeks and we have a great time together.
The eccentric Basque who likes singing in Italian, first fell in love with pank and then with popular Mexican songs. Influenced by the Italians he sang against militarism, went to prison for evading military service, referred to a difficult world without future.
He released the first album “Mondo Difficille” in 1999 with his own songs such as “Me cago en el amor” which made a great success and also made arrangements such as “Sapore di mare” of Gino Paoli and “Tu vuo fa l’ Americano” of Renato Carosone in a Manu Chao production. After ten years he continues his success story in singing, with new albums, enjoys every moment, comments on various issues with humor and sensitivity, gives concerts. Wearing his hat and like a genuine “Ragazzo di Strada” with his slim moustache and goodwill plays his music.
