Patricia Barber
Brilliant songwriter, lyricist, singer and pianist from Chicago with influences from Debussy, Ravel, Fauré.
From the early years of her career with her imagination and talent she has shaped her personal sound and combined music with poetry.
“Music chooses her musicians” she said, and her own music is jazz.
Her trip had many stations. He has taken us to a nightclub performing songs by well-known composers, because she thinks something special can happen late at night.
“As the crowd thins, the musicians intuitively sense that those few who have stayed, have stayed for a reason. A reciprocity of need and desire inspires the musicians to dig as deeply into their talent and souls as they are able. This mysterious and transformative confluence of events rarely happens in concert. It is the province of the nightclub.”
Patricia Barber has sung Cole Porter in a unique way. She has released albums with her own songs, as well as “Mythologies”, a song cycle based on Greek mythology and Ovid’s Metamorphoses fleshed out in music.
Her latest work, “Higher”, has received great reviews for both music and lyrics.
“Few performers in or out of jazz are as consistently brilliant as Patricia Barber. ...Brainy. Beautiful.” JazzTimes
