She was born and raised in Canada and showed an early love for soul and jazz both as a listener and as a musician. She had not thought, however, that this love would someday lead her to the beginning of a promising career and would further give her the Juno Award for 2011, as well as the prize for best vocal album of 2010 for “Nina”, in the same league.
The tribute to Nina Simone was the first thing that came to her mind, when she was asked to spend two days in the studio and record something she loves and is an inspiration for her. Nina Simone is, besides her biggest musical standard, the key to the door that opened adding to the career of Kellylee collaborations with artists such as George Benson, Tony Bennett, Chris Botti, Dianne Reeves, Maceo Parker, Derek Trucks and Sharon Jones. Also live performances in Sunfest, Algoma Fall Festival, Imperial Theatre etc.
Her voice is considered by musicians and critics the most beautiful and soulful of her generation. In 2013 she presents a completely different project. A series of adaptations with “And So We Dance” standing out, which we will hear in our country together with songs of Nina Simone.
