Michael Brecker was considered by many as the most influential tenor saxophonist after John Coltrane and was awarded 15 Grammy Awards and an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music. Dave Liebman is one of the most influential jazz artists of his time. The National Endowment for the Arts gave him the honorary title Jazz Master. Joe Lovano has a Grammy Award on his record and an abundance of references in the magazine Down beat. The three met musically in mid 90’s in order to experiment with the most arcane aspects of jazz, based on musical routes that the legendary John Coltrane carved a few decades earlier. Their individual history and career were the prerequisites for a most promising collaboration.

The release of their first album titled “Gathering of spirits” caught the attention of the world press, making Amazon to recommend same and describe it as “the collective vision and apocalyptic energy of John Coltrane in combination with Eric Dolphy and Pharoah Sanders”.

The unfortunate death of Michael Brecker in 2007 deprived the musicians and their audience of the anticipated recording collaboration. However a little later (in June 2008 ) the addition of Ravi Coltrane ( son of the historic saxophonist John Coltrane) replaced with huge success the loss of Michael and resulted to the second album of Saxophone Summit titled “Seraphic Light”.

Such name connects somehow the superior angels with the artists. Like angels the artists, even if they leave early, leave behind an inspiration to others. The majority of critics said that the sound was something different, with Ravi giving his personal special mark in a heartwarming venture that one could call a tribute to Michael Brecker and John Coltrane. A special part was the “Message to Michael”, a composition of the brother of Michael, orchestrated by him.
