“We are a group of people that create the pulse of life using a simple instrument and putting into it our soul”, words of the founder of the group Yamato, drummer Masa Ogawa.
They were formed in Nara city in 1993 to appear at a local festival. Since then they have given over 2600 performances in more than fifty countries including Greece. In their last concert in Lycabettus, they impressed the audience and each beat of the drums made the heart to beat at their own pace.
This year, 20 years since their establishment, they celebrate by presenting the show “Rojyoh : The beat on the road”. The team uses dozens of traditional Japanese drums, from the small uchiwa-daiko to the huge odaiko. The sound of taiko accompany woodwind and string Japanese instruments.
“The power of Yamato”, wrote The Times, “lifts viewers out of their seats who laugh, clap and participate in the show.”
