In the 60's he was an award-winning jazz vibraphonist, who in the 70's and 80's became a popular R & B band leader. He has produced more than 82 albums. Today Roy Ayers, a musician with modernity in his veins, with a career that lasts decades continues to make albums, tours and lives today.
He tried to create a new sound. His friend Erykah Badu in the studio recording said to him “You're the godfather of neo- soul”. When he asked what is neo- soul, she replied, the sound of your music and a lot of us create sounds similar to yours.
Artists like Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, 50 Cent, A Tribe Called Quest, Tupac, Ice Cube have arranged his work. Many of his songs such as “Everybody Loves the Sunshine”, “Searchin”, “Running Away” have seen countless remakes and remixes from DJs around the world.
Music is the life of Roy Ayers who is received ecstatically and believes as he has said that “The true beauty of music is that it connects people. It carries a message, and we, the musicians, are the messengers.”
