The internationally renowned award-winning saxophonist, singer, composer and educator, has recorded 5 albums for “Candid Records” based in New York and London. The Daedalus Project-Labyrinth (2002) was voted second jazz album of the year and album of March for BBC. His new work “Across the Universe” was recorded in New York, with the participation of top jazz musicians from all continents.
Dimitri Vassilakis has taught at the Universities of Athens and Macedonia, and has presented workshops, seminars, and lectures in reputable foreign universities such as Yale, Queens, Skidmore, Columbia, DePaul, Royal Academy Of Music, Paris Conservatoire.
He has performed in famous clubs, concert halls and festivals including Birdland New York, Yale, Natural History Museum Washington DC for the Smithsonian Institute, Onassis Cultural Centre New York, Sweet Rhythm, Kitano, Cutting Room, Zinc New York, London Jazz Festival Royal Festival Hall, South Africa Tour. He has also appeared in major festivals in Europe and the Balkans, while the international press has described him as a Greek God of jazz ...
He has played and recorded among others with Jeff “Tain” Watts, Dave Liebman, Marc Johnson, Abdullah Ibrahim, Jamie Cullum, Adam Nussbaum, Theodosii Spassov, Ralph Peterson, Andy Sheppard, Milcho Leviev, Ron Affif, Juliet Kelly.
In Greece we have seen him in the Athens Festival, Delphic Games, Athens 2004, Athens D. Festival, Fringe Festival, Megaro Mousikis Athinon, Lycabettus Theatre, Herodeion, Palace Theatre, Hall Parnassos, Technopolis, Half Note and elsewhere.
In Faust in addition to his older albums, he will present to us new and unreleased songs with his quartet.
