He is a musician, producer, composer and arranger. He has worked with artists such as Chaka Khan, Roberta Flack, Erykah Badu, David Bowie, David Sanborn, Al Jarreau, Vanessa Williams, Randy Crawford and others, but mainly as a permanent associate of Marcus Miller.
Poogie Bell was born and raised in New York and has been playing music since his childhood. He took lessons from his father a jazz musician and music teacher, gave his first concert whe he was two years old and appeared on TV with Pearl Bailey when he was five! He grew up under the influence of artists such as Max Roach, Ornette Coleman, Mary Lou Williams, Paul Chambers, Ron Carter and worked as a young professional with friends like Marcus Miller, Omar Hakim, Lenny White, Bernard Wright, Weldon Irvine and others.
His career was written in the wider area of funk jazz or hip hop until he came up for good in the area of R & B. He recorded successful solo albums with renowned musicians, the band members of Marcus Miller. He is currently touring with the same musicians and the excellent Poogie Bell Band ....
