His music is rooted in tradition, but it is also under the influence of contemporary musical idioms. His inspiration stems from mysticism, romanticism and fantasy. He combines elements and sounds from around the world while addressing himself as a messenger of peace, seeking to collaborate with musicians from different countries.
He has presented several albums, participated in many recordings, has written music for musical films and television series.
He received in 2003 the award for “Best Artist of the Turkish Music Award 2003” and was nominated for the prize “BBC Word Music Award” category in the Middle East. He won the “US Golden Belly Musician of the Year Award ”in 1998 and 1999, and has also won awards for humanitarian and peaceful activity.
He was nominated for the Golden Turk Awards 2010 in the category “Most Successful Musician”.
Omar Faruk Tekbilek is particularly dear to the Greek public. After working with Michael Nikoloudis, Glykeria, his appearances in Greece and the show with the Whirling Dervishes the year before, he returns to present his more than twenty five years recorded work with influences from the Middle East and the Mediterranean.
“Greece is a country of inspiration, history and the cradle of civilization. The Greek culture and the Greek civilization have created a bridge between East and West. That's why I wanted to cooperate with Greek musicians, because the harmony of Greek music is like a second voice that flows in my melodies”, he has said .
In his concerts he will play ney, baglama, zurna and percussion. Along with the musicians surrounding him, it will appear for the first time the master of the lyre Lazos Ioannidis, an artist who continues to follow with great love and faith the traditions of Pontian music.
