Souljazz Orchestra & Kokolo Afrobeat Orchestra

Two bands heat for a memorable party

For the first time together in the Greek public, two of the most remarkable figures in the field of Afro music. A meeting of “giants”, which would make Fela Kuti happy, is preparing to transmit the vibrations of the Afro sound with horns, percussion and organic rhythm explosion!
On Thursday, April 14 at Gazarte, guests from Canada and New York respectively, Souljazz Orchestra and Kokolo Afrobeat Orchestra in a rare partnership! For one night, a total of 12 musicians take their turn on stage, pioneer leaders of the revolutionary sound of our Afro culture lead us in dance and ritual!

                                   SOULJAZZ ORCHESTRA

Since they were formed in 2002 in Canada, Soul Jazz orchestra rose to the top of their kind. Soul, Jazz, Afro, Latin and sounds of 60's and 70's mixed magically traveling the indelible imprints of Fela Kuti and Manu Dibango to the music of today with their own unique way. It is not by chance the connection of their sound with names such as Mulatu Astatke, Quantic, Sun Ra, Coltrane and Sanders (and other jazz giants).

“Mista President” was their ticket on any well informed updated radio stations around the world and became the favorite song of producers and listeners.
After such a powerful start the only thing left was to continue its upward trend. It happened just like that in 2008 with their second album “Manifesto”, which instituted them as genuine exponents of the afrobeat music scene. In 2010 they released “Rising Sun” by entering  new musical paths consisting of Jazz, African rhythms and cinematic sounds without ever forgetting their roots.
Closer than ever they created their best album to date, as Gilles Peterson's BBC Radio One also claims

                                            KOKOLO

New Yorkers Kokolo is a band, one thinks, that came from the Afrobeat of the70’s. New York meets the sounds of Fela Kuti and Spanish Harlem, the music of James Brown and the Fania All Stars. Few can disagree that Kokolo have one of the loudest shows a band can give on stage, overcoming three hours.
The slogan is one: the scene is our bridge to the world! The message they want to get across through their records is “leave more consume less ... with more joy and less stress”.

Their music is exceptional, their lyrics are their strong point. From the philosophical musings of Noam Chomsky and Osho to the poems of J. Krishnamurty. Kokolo show us the signs of the times.

“The music is written for everyone and not for some ... like fun.”

Spanish Latin, Afrobeat, Funk, Soul, and anything else you may ask of them…..

Less stress, more fun, many hours dancing with Souljazz Orchestra and Kokolo Afrobeat Orchestra.
