Frenchwoman Isabelle Geffroy, known as Zaz, formed her first band which was a blues band when she was 20 years of age, at the time she was studying in the music school CIAM, in Bordeaux. Later on in Paris she responded to an advert calling for "a singer with a hoarse voice." Keredine Soltani and the rest of the company "Play On" showed her the way to her first album which was very successful and reached No 1 in the French charts, confirming the great public acceptance. She was that year’s revelation and some of her countrymen dared to compare her with Edith Piaf.
Her influences come from jazz, French chanson, the pop, the gypsy music. Her biggest asset however is her distinctive voice, which can be transformed to a musical instrument like in the song "Je Veux".
Zaz has sung in front of 10,000 spectators at the Hendaye stadium, has "jammed and rehearsed" with Chileans in Casablanca, she has made adaptations of Edith Piaf’s songs in the heart of Siberia, has appeared without pay in a salt mine in Colombia, has won the contest Génération Réservoir, has felt the love of the people on the stage of the Paris Olympia.
She comes for the first time in Greece, but the public has already singled out her first album playing on the radio and clubs with great success.

The Badminton Hall theater was full when we heard from the microphone the last announcement, the concert begins. So everybody was waiting for Zaz. “I do not think you came for Zaz? We also came for her...” Sofia Kourtidou told us who appeared together with the Sleeping Band to perform for us some of the songs that have not been released yet on record and keep us company for awhile. After about a quarter of an hour the lights came on again and of course we continued to wait....
The time was about twenty to ten and while the audience had begun to wonder what's going on, the musicians appeared on stage and with them Zaz, happy, cheerful and homely singing “Les Passants” ....
“Good evening my friends”, she said in Greek. Her first concert in Greece had already begun. The songs of the album which is titled with her name quite diversified, succeeded one another. “Le long de la route”, “La fee”, “Eblouie par la nuit” and “Je Veux” which, naturally as this was her biggest success, aroused the audience. She did not hesitate a moment to make her voice a musical instrument, to play the drum, to dance, to be silent waiting for public’s reaction.
Speaking mostly in French and sometimes in Greek she told us the greatest gift in life was to understand herself and to love herself, to be able to love others. She devoted to the child we all have inside and she asked for help in translation from a girl who attended the concert. She wanted us to give her a gift, to try to find what we keep hidden inside for years and participate in a game trying to get them out and express them with shouts.
She waived goodbye and left the stage with her musicians while the crowd of people who participated in the whole concert dancing, singing, shouting, even if they do not understand French, remained for a long time clapping and tapping their feet waiting for her to appear again. Zaz returned to sing two songs including “Dans ma rue” and “Ni oui ni non” and completed her concert at 11:15.
