“These days I never stop working. Because I can. I am healthy. And I love the job, I think it does me good. I am very happy and I have a good time. I think the worst is over. It was about time wasn’t it?”
Legendary Marianne Faithfull with no illusions performs songs, plays at the theater and cinema, gives concerts. She tells her own stories with her unique husky voice and boundless creativity. From the afternoon on the day she was sitting watching the children playing and smiling faces in the song “As Tears Go By” of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, when she was 17 years of age, the “Sister Morphine”, her relationship with Mick Jagger and her old life, many things have changed. Frustrations, self-destructive mania, alcohol, drugs, artistic inactivity, detoxification, breast cancer. She sees the past though without nostalgia, without writing anything off, without illusions, preferring to live in the present.
In 1979 with the album “Broken English” she exorcised her nightmares, while later we were impressed with the authenticity of her interpretation in Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht and in other projects as well. She recently released the album “Horses And High Heels”, which was recorded in New Orleans. In this album John Porter, Lou Reed, Dr. John and the front-man of the MC5, Wayne Kramer also took part. It is signed by Hal Willner who works with her for several years.
“The conventional happiness does not fit me, you know” she said. “But this is a very happy album. I do not feel depressed anymore. And I believe that everything I experienced was worth it. I had difficult times at the 70s, but ultimately I think everything was great until now. So I guess that this album is something of an accomplishment. I've been incredibly lucky, don’t you think I don’t know it. I feel so grateful that I still write songs and express my feeling through music. And best of all is that I work with exceptional people. This gives me inspiration.”
