With a father from Guinea and a Greek mother born in France Elisabeth Kontomanou is quite simply a great jazz singer.
With a career that goes higher and higher, she has established a reputation in the American and European jazz scene, collaborating with musicians such as Leon Parker, Michel Legrand, Mike Stern, Jeff Watts, Richard Bona, Dennis Chambers, Vinnie Colaiuta, Jim Beard, Alain Jean-Marie, Toots Thielemans, etc.
Her quality and value as a jazz singer was fully recognized around 1999, when she got several awards in Europe. Such practice still continues as the recordings are since then filled with clean, charming and beautiful jazz moments that stand out among contemporary vocal jazz releases worldwide.
Clean, charming and beautiful is also her voice, for which the pianist Jean-Michel Pilc says,
‘‘is an artist who has the rare ability to shock your soul and touch your heart with just the unique nature of her voice. When Elisabeth sings, it is not just the voice you hear, it is the very soul that is transformed into sound ...’’
