The James Taylor Quartet (JTQ) was formed by the Hammond organ player James Taylor in the 80’s. His vision for the group, as we read in the personnel site, was that it could be ‘‘the band in the corner’’ of a club/party sequence in any 60’s or 70’s film. It would provide a high energy musical backdrop to a night out, while the focus would be the coming together of people.
In mid eighties they recorded a single with a version of Herbie Hancock’s main theme of the film of Michelangelo Antonioni’s ‘‘Blow Up’’. The first album was released in 1987 and it was the ‘‘Mission Impossible’’. During the next decades they released many albums which had a big success and more recently in 2009 the ‘‘New World’’, while James Taylor Quartet was established in Acid Jazz.
They were based in The Jazz Cafe in Camden Town. They gave however a lot of concerts and participated in Jazz festivals around the world.
‘‘We endeavour to offer the audience a honest and totally un-compromised musical experience, in which both audience and musicians alike are challenged, immersed and ultimately transformed’’ writes James Taylor in their site.
