The priestess of electronic music, Laurie Anderson comes after 4 years in Athens to present the new multimedia project “Delusion”. The world premiere took place at the Olympic Games in Vancouver in 2010.
With music and images she explores memory, identity and nostalgia. The Delusion is a meditation on life and language, switches between reality and myth, while the original concept consists of a series of short mystery plays. The stories come from many worlds - technical, scientific, personal and mythical - and from various states of consciousness, dream and meditation. The structure mimics the wandering nature of personal thoughts, explores issues from politics to personal loss and gathers the internal and external world into a mystical whole.
Its musical feature is determined by Tibetan wind instruments, Arabic strings played by Laurie Anderson in her electronic violin, a total of masterly and atmospheric music and video projection.
“The electronically altered voice I use for many years, the one that makes my voice male, has gradually developed and acquired color and the name Fenway Bergamot. The Delusion is the debate between that voice and my own” Laurie Anderson has said.
The stunning visual elements include animated videos from pastel developed by Amy Khoshbin and film sequences from the distinguished filmmakers Maryse Alberti and Toshiaki Ozawa.
“Anderson performs her magic and the project with the contradictions, insight and the fragments of wisdom, remains inside you after the show, like a powerful dream” as Financial Times have written.
