“The Tiger Lillies Freakshow” is the first complete production of the Badminton Theatre, and was made for the 20 years of the London's favorite subversive group. The world premiere in January 2009 was a great success, leading the show since then on an extensive tour of major festivals and distinguished halls throughout Europe.
Presented at Tollwood Festival in Munich, Wintergarten in Berlin, Winterfest in Salzburg, and many other places, won rave reviews from the press and public admiration.
The Munich “Spiegel” wrote “This amazing show of Tiger Lillies combines the nostalgic atmosphere of variete with the vibrations and energy of a rock concert.”
The idea of the show was born from the same shows that were presented in the mid-19th century in America, at a time without TV, internet, air connections, or other means of communication with the outside world. The sideshows or freakshows gave an opportunity to residents of towns and villages in North America to get to see all the “strange” in the world: Midgets, Siamese siblings, people with all kinds of deformities, hermaphrodites, people who swallowed fire and swords, even animals with deformities, caused shock and admiration by stimulating the imagination of the viewer.
With the Freakshow Tiger Lillies and Sebastiano Toma are approaching a darker and more eccentric world, a parallel universe taboo that lives and breathes next to us, with its own laws and unwritten rules. Joining them in the show dwarfs, women-rubber, acrobats, jugglers, all these performers that fit together in the bizarre world of Martyn Jacques, Adrian Stout and Adrian Huge..
“The Freakshow is the dark side of the moon. The one that people do not want to look and can not understand. It talks about beauty and ugliness, the sensitivity and the hardness of this fringe universe of freaks.” Martyn Jacques (Tiger Lillies)
Two and a half years after the premiere it is presented again in Athens. This gives the opportunity to those who missed it in 2009 to enjoy it and those who want, to see it again. The Tiger Lillies do not need an introduction...
