Nino Rota, one of the most important musicians of his generation, a child prodigy, during his career composed symphonies, operas, ballet music, orchestral music, music for the cinema. With his compositions he led us to the solitude of the world of Federico Fellini from the White Sheik to the Prova d’ orchestra.

“My exclusive preference for Rota's music is because I find him quite close to my themes, my stories and we work together very harmoniously. I do not indicate the musical themes, since I am not a musician. But as I have quite clear ideas on the film I direct, for all the details, my collaboration with Rota is just like with the script. I sit next to the piano and I tell him what I want.”

Besides Federico Fellini Nino Rota worked with other directors such as Luchino Visconti, Franco Jeffirelli, Lina Wertmuller, and Francis Ford Coppola. For more than thirty years he accompanied with his music countless films and his melodies became known and beloved. Born in 1911, he passed away in 1979.

This year on December 3rd is the 100^th anniversary since his birth and the “Theater” of the Cultural Centre “Hellenic Cosmos” presents in six performances, a great tribute to the unforgettable composer titled “Haris Alexiou and the cinema of Nino Rota.”

In 1987 at “Sirius ”  Manos Hadjidakis taught her the song “Canzone Arabbiata”, which was heard in the film “History of love and anarchy” of Lina Wertmuller. From that time she started her relationship with the Italian song, which became more systematic with the album “Haris Alexiou in unpredictable songs” and her collaboration with Paolo Conte. Mauro Bolognini directed her appearances, while in Florence last May she received the award “Una vita per la musica - Giglio d’ Oro” from the “Fondazione Premio Galileo 2000”, which for 14 years awards prizes to prominent European personalities from politics , economics, science and arts for their action and contribution in the area they serve.

“Nino Rota exerts the fascination of an unknown and indestructible musical landscape.”  Haris Alexiou said, who on the occasion of the tribute saw again all the great films of Fellini, because his work was identified by the personality of Nino Rota.

Together with her the Contemporary Music Orchestra of ERT under the direction of Andreas Pilarinos. Jason Triantafyllidis in choosing and setting up the program, Panos Papadopoulos director, Kostas Papadoukas in orchestrations and Eleftheria Deko in lighting.
